Cardiff Castle – One of the ‘Great Castles' of Wales

John Patrick Crichton-Stuart, third marquis of Bute can be touted with the honor of shaping the city of Cardiff in the 19th century. Not only did the city take shape under his architectural brilliance, but also the Cardiff Castle and Civic Center has known the touch of this millionaire's hand. Although famous for its neoclassical charm, the city has had no problems in keeping up with the changing times. Molding itself into a glamorously futuristic centre it has no want of tourist attractions. But as many have said: the main attraction of this city is the ease with which a person can escape urban trappings and lose themselves in the old-fashioned charm of the suburbs.

A Roman fort, a Norman bastion and gothic fairytale fantasy all rolled into one, the Cardiff Castle boasts of true authenticity as a castle. Rising through the midst of the modern capital of Wales - its main attraction is the many architectonic designs that are epitomized in its structure. Even at present the fencing is the original structure, housing the foundations of the medieval castle's basements. The years 1121-47 saw many changes bought to its structure and the stone water ditch that is seen today was erected at about that time.

Managing to stand tall through numerable owners, a fire that almost destroyed it and a civil war that plagued the entire city, the castle finally fell into the capable hands of marquis John Patrick in the year 1867. With direction given to architect William Burges, the marquis proceeded to recreate an excellent recalling of its feudal past and even managed to bring back its Roman roots. The walls are filled with incredible murals epitomizing mythological and historical figures, the fireplaces are flushed with statues and the Hanging Garden is said to be quite an attraction. The masterpiece of their design though, was considered to be the Clock Tower ' which is a symbol of the city.

Copthorne Hotel Cardiff Caerdydd is a hotel that is situated just four miles off the city center and with easy access to the international airport. A Cardiff hotel that boasts of award winning restaurants and fine dining, it's also the original home of Wale's Dining Theatre. An ideal placement for meetings and conferences, this hotel in Cardiff also offers special rates for longer stays.
